Srimati Sitadevi- ( Intelligence) -Part2

Normally in the world, a female if first qualified as someone's daughter, then progressively identified as someone's wife and then gets promoted as someone's mother. In an earlier stanza in the Manas (Ramcharitamanas), Goswami Tulsidas follows this pattern while qualifying Mother Parvati.
Jæ Jæ girbaå räj kisoré
Jæ maheñ mukù chand chakori
Jæ gajbadaì çaòäëaë mätä
(Mänas: Bälakänòa Verse:234-235)

"You are the Mountain Himalayas' daughter. You are the moon-brilliance (wife) of Lord Shankar's resplendent face and You are the mother of the divine siblings Lord Kartikeya and Lord Ganapathy. However, when Goswamiji went on to describe Srimati Sitadevi, he did not observe this decorum of description. We come to gather that Goswamiji deliberately broke the decorum to drive home a highly insightful thought.

While surrendering to the feet of Kishoriji (Seeta Devi) (Srimati Sitadevi), Goswami Tulsidas says

"Jäsu krupäì nirmal mati pävauì|"
(Bälkäìòa: Verse: 7: Stanza: 7)

The intention of the above verse is that when Kishoriji is satisfied with Her devotee she purifies the intelligence of Her devotee. Although the world accepts that it is intelligence which is the most important faculty in a human being, the Manas disagrees with this view saying that although intelligence is precious, it comes with its own set of problems that can leave the intelligence confounded almost at all times.

The Manas says although the head is positioned in the topmost position and is the center of intelligence, the major defect or virus to infect this center of high intelligence is false-pride. A peculiar defect in such intelligence is that if a man is told that there are several people richer than him, he shall easily accept. However, the same person will not internally accept that there are other people who are more intelligent than him. Such a thing is thought to be an insult to one's intelligence however foolish one is, in reality.

It is clear from the above argument that the figure of high intelligence is most often infected with the virus of false-pride. Goswamiji says that "mati", (intelligence) is not sufficient, but "sumati" (purified intelligence) is desired and this intelligence is only a result of inner humility , knowing well that one is always subservient to the Supreme will and the intelligence one possesses should be energized by the "Will of the Supreme" that will sanctify intelligence.

The process of maintaining pure intelligence is elucidated beautifully by Goswamiji. He says

Janak sutä jana Janani jänaki | atisaya priya karunänidhän ké |
Täke jug pada kamala manavauì | jäsu krupäì nirmal mati pävauì |

First one, who has intelligence (mati), develops good intelligence (sumati) and then one transforms that good intelligence to purified intelligence (nirmal mati). This is the order. So whatever be the case, if false-pride exists, the illusion will exist, this is a spiritual fact. If someone feels in the depth of one's intelligence that "I am intelligent", then on that basis, one will also have the tendency of accepting illusion as reality and night as day.
Thus, to develop pure intelligence, one must surrender oneself completely unto Srimati Sitadevi.
