Spirituality aims at Selflessness. But there is the true self, to which we have become alienated, because of the covering of the non-self. In the worldly parlance, the work of the Ego is termed as "Selfish". But True Selfishness is to defeat the Ego and arrive at the source of our being. Hence Spirituality is truly aimed towards "Selfishness" alone. To be utterly selfish is the goal of spirituality. When we are entirely concerned about our well-being, all traces of worldly selfishness shall be weeded out from us. Our concern for our fellow-beings today is made-up, it is not genuine, it is not true. Today, we are bothered about our selfish well-being and if there is time left after our well-being is ensured, we ask about our neighbors. Such concern is worthless. Unless we get to the core of our well-being as "universal", we shall not be truly bothered about the other. If we are utterly committed to our own self, how can we be genuine about the other?

Self is our source, the beginning of who or what we are. It is Truth which seeks to be personified in our form. However around that self, due to the covering of ignorance, is built, the ego, that gives us our false identity. The false identity is what gives rise to "selfishness", a separateness that thrives on acquiring and conquering. It creates a divide between "you" and "me". The Ego is that which is fishy that veils the True "I", the self. The need for survival and "Might is Right" phenomenon has been established by the False-Ego. The day man realizes the undercurrent of the Ego, that thrives on conquering and separating, he shall have found the way towards his own happiness. It is the ego that creates discord in ourself and in society. However, the ego cannot be identified and fought with, directly, since it is now an inseparable part of us.
