Self-Esteem
The terms Self-respect stands for the giving of Respect to the false self, which is the ego while Self-Esteem recognizes the value of the True Self, which is the source of Creation alone. Ego represents the "False I " based on the conception of the Material World, while the Self represents the Spiritual origin of all that can be. There can never be two Selves. The whole universe has only oneself. When we respect the source within, we shall develop self-esteem.
We shall not then seek favors from anyone. That is Self-Esteem. We shall help others but be utterly dependent on the Supreme Self for help. Self-Respect is demanded because it is related to Ego, It is a residue of false pride which invokes fear. Self-Esteem, on the other hand, is completely based on universal brotherhood, where there is a genuine concern.
